Dinocrocuta gigantea. by RomanYevseyev Dinocrocuta gigantea. by RomanYevseyev
Very similar to hyenas, Percrocutidae form a separate family, which developed quite independently of these hyenas. This is one of the experiments on the nature of testing models of hyenas. The largest in the family - Dinocrocuta gigantea, having reached the size of mid-sized lion. In the Late Miocene, these large predators robbed in Asia and (yet unconfirmed data) in Europe and even North Africa.

Dinocrocuta's skull is 41 cm [link] The skeleton is unknown. And, as is the case with the Sarkastodon, we have to rely on a well-known skeleton of the Percrocuta. If the proportions were the same, the Dinocrocuta could reach 1.1 - 1.2 m at the withers and about 1.8 m in length from nose to base of tail - it is within the size of lions. The Percrocuta is quite easy to figure, and if the Dinocrocuta were about the same physique, I doubt that she weighed more than 200 - 250 kg. Where have you dug up a 400 kg of a weight, man??!!

neither did yours unfortunately :-/

here, I will set down the google scholar page when you type in Dinocrocuta

[link]

if it comes, up, you should be able to find the specific paper.

"Osteological evidence for predatory behavior of the giant percrocutid (Dinocrocuta gigantea) as an active hunter"

T Deng, ZJ Tseng - Chinese Science Bulletin, 2010 - Springer

That's the one where the size estimate for Dinocrocuta is qouted from Geurin.

I still can not believe it at 380 kg. This is not a cow or bear, this is a wiry cursorial predator, the size of a lion.

Again, excellente reproduction, I like this Dinocrocuta! It's like another feliform similar to modern ones (like nimravids and barburoufelids respect to the cats) :)
