Description
Apataelurus kayi was a saber-toothed creodont from the middle Eocene of North America. He is particularly similar to the saber-toothed cats (Machairodontinae) and feliformians Nimravidae from the Carnivora order. It was the size of a large leopard. Sure, Apataelurus hunted a large animals, even possible, he attacked the young brontotheres.

With those hypertrophied maxillary canines you'd expect a really strong predator that would be able to grapple with its prey (like Smilodon). But creodonts don't really seem to have relied on their forelimbs at all for prey acquisition. I suspect machaeroidines were different from other saber-toothed predators in that they didn't grapple with prey. What do you think?
