This giant predatory synapsid (Dinocephalia, Anteosauria) lived in the middle Permian of South Africa (South Pangaea in Permian). Length of skull 80 cm; total length, probably up to 5 m; height at the shoulders to 1.5 meters and weighs about 500 - 600 kg. Heavy predator, it may attack the prey from the water and coastal bushes.

I like to imagine these with a bit of fur...I should draw one, I do some mean little pen sketches these days ;)

It is unlikely that fur was in so primitive therapsids. Especially in a large semi-aquatic animals

I've heard something about it being semiaquatic but with a skull like that...hmmm...semiaquatic predators rarely have pachyostosis on their skull roofs like these guys

May not be semi-aquatic, but somehow most of the primitive Synapsid kept watered areas.

Спасиб). Да, на пошив антео бегемотик пошёл. Я так прикинул: на какую ещё, как не на бегемотью кожу будет похожа кожа без рептильной чешуи, но наделённая большим коликчекством желёз и, к тому же, околоводной животины.
